Uganda to host AFCON 2027

The Ugandan government has maintained its dedication to organizing a successful 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition and CHAN 2025. Preparations by Uganda which will be co hosted with Tanzania and Kenya have started to take shape.

Hon. Peter Ogwang, the State Minister for Sports, made this revelation while providing an update on Uganda’s plans to co-host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in January 2025 and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.

“We are committed to delivering AFCON 2027,” he revealed by expressing optimism about Uganda’s readiness to host the two international events. This came about following his meeting with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), which approved the opening of the Lugogo offices of the 2027 AFCON Secretariat.

Furthermore, Hon. Ogwang affirmed that CHAN 2025, which Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania are co-hosting, will be managed by the same LOC that oversaw AFCON 2027. The minister also mentioned Kadiba, the playground at Kyambogo University, and Namboole outer pitch as the four mandatory training pitches that CAF needs for the competitions.

“We are beginning to embark on the development of Makerere University Ground, which is one of the training venues identified for AFCON,” he said.
